Vergina is a small town in northern Greece, located in the prefecture of Imathia, Central Macedonia. Vergina became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including a tomb believed by some to be of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The finds from the excavations are exhibited in the protective shelter over the royal tombs of Vergina and in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
