Sanford, who will enter first grade in September, is one of dozens of youngsters from Greece’s Affinity Orchard Place apartment complex giving up a couple of lazy vacation hours each week this summer to bolster their reading skills.

With prize giveaways for meeting reading benchmarks and read-along story times for tots, the aim of the free Pirates and Princesses Adventure Book Club is twofold, said Tricia Brezinski, the complex’s marketing manager. The group meets twice a week in the complex’s community center and is part of an array of offerings the complex provides to keep youngsters busy during summer months.  more
